What is Christianity? How did it begin? What do Christians believe? What are their customs and history? How has Christianity developed though the centuries, and how diverse is Christianity today? Introducing Christianity is an essential introduction to one of the world’s great religious traditions.
James R. Adair narrates the history of Christianity: the intellectual and historical context of its origins, its triumph under the Romans, the upheavals of the Crusades, the Protestant and Catholic Reformations and the challenges of the Enlightenment, and of the modern age. He explores the intriguing new forms Christianity took in the nineteenth century, the evolution of sects such as Mormonism and Jehovah’s witnesses, and its mission to Africa. Adair also interrogates Christianity’s role in the modern world, as he surveys liturgical, geographical and denominational perspectives of contemporary Christianity. He concludes by investigating how Christians interact with modern culture, particularly science, the arts, ethics, political and other religions.
Written in a vivid and lively style, by an experienced teacher, Introducing Christianity is the ideal resource for students beginning their studies of Christianity. Richly illustrated, it also includes quotations from original sources, learning goals, summary boxes, questions for discussion, suggestions for further reading, and a comprehensive glossary, to aid study and revision. Introducing Christianity
By Texas Longhorn
This paperback text is an excellent buy, and I saved a significant amount of money by securing the book through Amazon. My Sunday School class is currently studying this book, and our group is extremely fortunate in that the book's author, James R. Adair, is a member of our class. How cool is that? It's also an advantage that my copy is pre-owned, as the previously highlighted text is proving to be quite helpful.

Good information, but seems biased.
By CollegeKid
While I find that most of the information is historical, I also find that this author is very biased in his presentation of Christianity. For example, when he presents certain theologians he describes some of them as most influential or the most prominent. I find these kind of statements to be very biased, especially since he says he wants to present a historical documentation.
I also wonder why he doesn't include more Biblical references since he is introducing Christianity. His form of Christianity (or Christianities as he says) is very different from the one I get when reading the Bible. He has focused little on the events in the Bible and more on commentary after the fact. I am only in Ch. 6 but I have read each chapter in depth (since this is for a college level class). Honestly I don't feel like he represents the Christian faith very well.
