The central argument of the book is that deeply 'institutionalised' corruption in India could only have come about through the exercise of particular long term customs of interaction between agencies of the state - government servants and police, and their interactions with local politicians. Because the social hierarchies that condition such interactions are complicated by individual and family connections to state employment, periods of traumatic state transformation lead to a reconfiguration in the meaning of corruption in the local state. Based on principal primary sources and extensive field interviews, this book will be of interest to academics working on political science and Indian and South Asian history.

Gloria Miller, PhD, is a professor in the Child, Family, and School Psychology Program at the University of Denver. Her expertise is in early childhood school psychology, and she has worked extensively with families in the field.

Amanda Arthur Stanley, PhD, currently works as a school psychologist in the Cherry Creek School District at an elementary and on-site preschool. She is actively involved in serving special and general education students, leads her school’s positive behavior support team, and teaches parenting classes to families of preschoolers.

I tried the sample, and there's no link to the printable resources. The description of this product says it includes a CD, but of course that's not possible for Kindle. That means the product description for this is wrong- you aren't getting the same thing as the print copy, you're getting just the text without the printable resources. Correct me if I'm wrong in the comment section, but I'm writing this to warn people off the Kindle version so they don't make the same mistake I almost did.

Reading the fine print

This book was required for a graduate course in Higher Ed Law and the cliche about 'reading the fine print' in legal documents is true in every sense. The cases in this book are well selected and summarized, but it is definitely written in legalese. When you page through this book, you are confronted with excessively long paragraphs in tiny font size with little space between the lines, which in my case resulted in a miserable groan at the sight of it.

If that weren't intimidating enough, the type size used in this book is so small that I had to purchase an e-book as well, so that I could enlarge the print and increase the line spacing to be able to read it. The cases presented in the chapters are using a different sans-serif font, which is actually smaller and even more difficult to read. If you have 20/20 vision you'll be OK with a print copy, but otherwise I suggest the kindle version from Amazon.

It's difficult to get past the publisher's layout and small type in order to focus on the content. There is not a single picture or illustration, and only 3 or 4 small figures in the form of very basic flow charts in the entire 700+ pages. While the cases are interesting, and the authors do a pretty good job of organizing the content, it takes a good bit of dedication to manage to get through it. If you are an attorney or law student accustomed to legal documents, you'll probably love it.

Required textbook

I don't know how much I'm loving this book. I purchased it because it is a required text in the legal course I'm taking as an elective in my Master's program in higher education. I took business law and entertainment law as required courses while an undergrad, and I liked both books better. The business law text was a more traditional introductory textbook; the entertainment law was a case book, and I suppose this book is a hybrid between the two. I've found several typos in the first couple chapters I've read, and I don't think the explanations are as clear as they could be. I wish there were more books available on this subject, but the offerings seem to be, unfortunately, fairly sparse.

Very Good. Except...

This is a very good book, especially for someone like me, who has no legal background or prior knowledge. The reason I only gave it four stars, though: the print in the book is so small, I almost feel like I need a magnifying glass to read it. Since I am reading it for a graduate program course, I am expected to read several chapters at a time, and the strain on my eyes is tough.

The authors did a great job of explaining higher education legal concepts and following each with case reviews, which is helpful to be able to read the information then read the real case examples.

Again, good book, just way-too-small font.

About the Author

Martin Griffiths is Associate Professor in the School of Political and International Studies at Flinders University, Australia. He is the author of International Relations Theory for the 21st Century (2007), Realism, Idealism, and International Politics (1995), and co-author (with Terry O'Callaghan and Steven C. Roach) of International Relations: The Key Concepts. Second Edition (2007), all available from Routledge.

Steven C. Roach is Assistant Professor of International Affairs in the Department of Government and International Affairs at the University of South Florida. Among his books are Critical Theory of International Politics (Routledge, forthcoming), Governance, Order, and the International Criminal Court (2009), Critical Theory and International Relations: A Reader (Routledge, 2007), and Politicizing the International Criminal Court (2006).

M. Scott Solomon is Assistant Professor of International Affairs in the Department of Government and International Affairs at the University of South Florida. He is the co-author (with Mark Rupert) of Globalization and International Political Economy: The Politics of Alternative Futures (2006).

About the Author

Terri D. Fisher has been on the psychology faculty of The Ohio State University since 1982. She has conducted research on various aspects of sexual behavior and is Past-President of the Midcontinent Region of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, and Consulting Editor for The Journal of Sex Research.

Clive M. Davis taught at Syracuse University. Davis' research was focused on sexuality and communications. He was Editor of The Journal of Sex Research and President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. He was the founding president of the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.

William L. Yarber is professor of applied health science and professor of gender studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. He is also a senior research fellow at The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction and the senior director of the Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention at Indiana University.

Sandra Davis was an Executive Assistant in the New York State Assembly for 15 years. From 1983-1988, she was Managing Editor of The Journal of Sex Research and then served as Assistant Editor for the Annual Review of Sex Research for 10 years. She currently edits the online series "What Sexual Scientist Know About…" published by the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.

A wonderful resource for research

This is the type of book that should exist for every subfield of research. It's very inclusive, covering a large range of topics, and it offers a number of choices in terms of the length of scales and the specific focus of each scale.

I have found this to be incredibly convenient for planning my dissertation research.

I got this book because I had a vague idea for my dissertation research but this book has scales that I didn't know existed that are much better than what I considered. I'm actually excited to create my research - something I've been dreading since I began my PhD.

Overall, an excellent collection of measures. It was very helpful in my dissertation work. However, it did not have sections on the Kinsey Scale or that Klein Sexual Orientation Grid (KSOG) or give them mention.
