Douglas Kelbaugh F.A.I.A. is Dean and Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He is a leading practitioner, teacher, and thinker in urban design, is the author of several books on urban design, and has taught design at eight schools of architecture in the USA, Europe, Japan, and Australia.

Kit Krankel McCullough is a lecturer at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. She is Principal of Kit Krankel McCullough Urban Design, and has significant and broad experience as a practitioner of urban design as well as having taught a variety of courses in urban design.

His previous work has examined Japanese political and intellectual history during the pre-war period, the history of Japanese trade policy, and the development of the cotton textile industry in modern Japan.

Peter W. von Staden is Senior Lecturer of International Business at Bristol Business School, part of the University of the West of England, UK. His research focuses on government and business relations in modern Japan. His previous work has examined the role of business in political decision-making in the early twentieth century.

About the Author

Aaron Garrett is Associate Professor of philosophy at Boston University, USA. He has published books on Spinoza and Berkeley, articles on many topics in early modern philosophy, and is the co-editor (with James Harris) of the Oxford History of Scottish Enlightenment Philosophy. He is currently working on two books on moral philosophy in the early modern period: The View from the Devil’s Mountain: Seventeenth-Century Moral Philosophy and The Reasonableness of Morality.

The war with Iraq gets special attention in this volume, along with the 'War on Terror'. Although many believe that the Bush administration successfully inflated the Iraq threat, there is not a neat consensus about why this was successful. Through both theoretical contributions and case studies, this book showcases the four major explanations of threat inflation -- realism, domestic politics, psychology, and constructivism -- and makes them confront one another directly. The result is a richer appreciation of this important dynamic in US politics and foreign policy, present and future.

This book will be of much interests to students of US foreign and national security policy, international security, strategic studies and IR in general.
