Such a great book

I bought this book for an Animal Ethics class I was taking and I kept it. The stories in this book are so moving and really make you think about what we are doing and how that directly and indirectly affects that other animals that live on this planet.

A contemporary view of the evolving definition and meaning of moral status.

A wonderfully complete series of articles by well-know and respected authors that summarizes contemporary theories and issues that deal with the moral status of animals Slowly but surely I see a movement towards a theory of moral standing that is based on Darwinian principles that gives animals of the various taxonomic classes incremental moral standing as the physical , mental and emotional capacities become ever so sophisticated and relevant. The old, one size fits al theories, proposed in the 70's and 80's by Regan and Singer are no longer adequate. A model of incremental moral standing and therefore increasing levels of moral protection as one goes up the evolutionary ladder is sound both biologically and philosophically.
