not as good as I hypothesized

This had an impressive array of chapters. I thought the book would have the Chinese chapter, the Indian chapter, the Korean chapter, etc. Instead, it spoke of fathers, spousal abusers, rainbow-flag men, substance abusers, and others.
I can't say the editors were being deceptive, but the book was too clinical for my taste. Chapters were filled with introducing this or that psychological model. I would have liked to read more about these men and less about psychology terms brought up just so that contributors can get tenure at their various institutions.
The book does have at least one chapter on intergenerational tensions. Still, I thought the work was too focused on new arrivals. It didn't cover the "1.5" generations and second-generations that I have met throughout my life. I would guess the latter group would seek out American mental professionals much more than the former. One contributor adds an autobiographical chapter at the end. He says something to the effect of, "Countless Asian women have passed me up to get with the nearest white guy. Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles." I support freedom of choice and feel delighted that the Loving v. Virginia case exists. Still, I think Asian-American guys have reason to be upset when they are overlooked by their female counterparts. (As an aside, I think yellow men and blackwomen should do more to seek each other out; I call it "Romeo must live.") Yes, we all have preferences, but it is fair to interrogate those preferences and see if some Eurocentricity and self-loathing are the bases for them. I don't think he should have been as indifferent to the phenomenon as he implied.
I don't think enough can be written on men of color. I thank each contributor and editor for their work. However, my eyes were much bigger than my stomach here.
